Selecting A Perfume

The United States perfume industry has revenues of $5.2 billion annually. Globally, the industry revenues are approximately $27.5 billion. In the United States it is estimated that 83 percent of all women use some type of perfume fragrance and there are 1160 brands to choose from in US department stores. With such a large selection and in many cases also a high cost, it becomes tricky to know which brand is a good fit for you.
Types of Fragrances
A good place to start is to determine what type of scent is best by looking at what is advertised about the ingredients. Scents can be called floral, musk, natural, loud fragrance, warm, bright and cheerful and so on. The scent must fit well with your body chemistry. Perfumes do smell differently on people. Something that smells good on one person may not smell as good on someone else.
The natural smelling perfume has a warm and soft fragrance such as rose or lavender while the musk smell is light and can linger. Both are not very strong and are pleasant to smell by most other people.
The stronger fragrances are sometimes better used by spraying on clothing instead of the body to keep their smell lighter around others.
The Selection Process
The easiest method for selecting a fragrance is to go to a store that has a variety of samples and try them on your skin to determine which one is best for you. Some stores have sample kits you can buy to test the different fragrances over a period of time before making a selection. This works best especially if the perfume is expensive.
Signature Perfumes
A second consideration is how much to spend on your perfume. Generally, the more expensive type of perfume is called a signature fragrance. It is normally advertised by a celebrity and these perfumes are worn continuously because the wearer is comfortable with the fragrance. It can be worn during the day and the evening. Besides being a signature for a famous person, it also becomes the signature of the one wearing it.
Wearing a favorite fragrance makes you feel better and most women put it on with their makeup each day. Good perfumes can last a long time.
Finding Discontinued Fragrances
Sometimes the department store carrying the particular signature fragrance may discontinue it without much notice. However, with the Internet, it is pretty easy to find the perfume online.
